Every Believer Needs a P.I.T. Crew
I’m so thankful to do ministry with FBC Ruidoso. We have a body of believers who prayerfully encourage one another. That is what a church family is suppose to do. You are not alone. I felt the prayers of God’s people this past week. Suppose you are dealing with a health issue or a health issue of a son/daughter. Suppose you are dealing with a life change or a job change. Suppose you are struggling with purpose and faith issues. We need the prayers of other people…we need a P.I.T. crew.
What is a PIT crew? In racing, a pit crew. A pit crew is a highly trained team that works together to keep a race car running at peak performance. During a pit stop, crew members change tires, refuel when needed, make adjustments, and get the driver back on the track as quickly and safely as possible. Every member has a job. Every second matters. And every person contributes to the success of the team. The driver may be the one behind the wheel, but the entire crew helps make the race possible.
God never intended for us to serve Him alone. We need people who pray for us, encourage us, stand beside us, and help us keep going when ministry gets difficult.
Every believer needs a P.I.T. crew! (Again, I love my acronymns!)
P — Persistent
I — Intercessor
T — Teammate
Ephesians 6:18
“Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.”
One of the greatest gifts we can give another believer is to pray for them consistently.
A pit crew prepares the car for the demands of the race. An intercessor brings the needs of a fellow believer before the Lord. We need people who don't just tell us they will pray for us but actually do it. We need people who pray for our families, our spiritual growth, our ministries, our decisions, and our faithfulness to Christ.
Paul understood the importance of prayer. Throughout his letters, he asked churches to pray for him and his ministry. In Colossians 4:3, he wrote:
“At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ.”
Think about that! The apostle Paul, a great missionary and church planter, asked other believers to pray for him. If Paul needed people praying for him, surely we do too!
Notice that Paul asked for prayer not simply for personal comfort but for opportunities to proclaim the gospel. Our prayers should reach beyond our own needs to the work God has called us to do together. At FBC Ruidoso, our mission is to Make, Mature, and Multiply disciples of Jesus Christ. That mission is too important for any one person to accomplish alone. We need teammates who share the load, use their gifts, and work together to reach people for Jesus.
Any good racer will tell you that their P.I.T. crew is vital to their success. If we are going to push the “gospel” car down the track, we need each other, each doing their part. Again, I count it a blessing to be on the racing crew with each of you. Keep praying, keep encouraging and keep serving King Jesus!
We are always better together! See you Sunday!
