Sharing your Personal Testimony
John 9:23-24 (ESV)
24 So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”
25 He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”
Hello Church Family!
This past week in our Worship service, I shared a practical way to share your faith with others. Our personal testimony relates to others and it is authoritative and powerful. Nobody can tell you that this experience did NOT happen to you. You are expert with your own story. I’ve been hearing reports this week of our church folks sharing Christ with others. What an encouragement! May God continue to give you the courage and boldness to make Jesus know to those who need Him the most.
In the above verse, we have the testimony of the blind man in the book of John. The Pharisees were threatened by Jesus and were trying to discredit Jesus. They brought the man (who was formerly blind) before them and questioned him. They even questioned his parents. They accused Jesus of being a sinner (claiming he broke the Sabbath). The testimony/story of the blind man is concise, powerful, and authoritative. He said, “One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” Nobody could refute his testimony of the healing power of Jesus.
If you haven’t taken the time to complete the personal testimony template, then make that a priority to complete it this week. It will not only bless you, it will prepare you to bless others. If you don’t feel comfortable sharing it publicly yet, then start sharing it with those in your home and workplace. Share it with your Christian friends. I usually ask for permission before sharing my personal testimony. “May I share what Christ has done for me?” or “May I share my personal story with you?” If they say yes, I am respectful of their time and package it in 2-3 minutes of Who I was before Christ, How I came to Christ, and Who I am after coming to Christ (Just like I share on Sunday from Acts 26).
Remember this: Your conversion testimony is NOT your ONLY testimony. Growing believers in Jesus are always changing and being conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29: Romans 12:2). As Christ-followers are transformed into the likeness of Christ, we gain new testimonies (daily and weekly). These are still powerful testimonies of how Jesus is changing you and growing you. Don’t be afraid to “brag on Jesus.” Don’t be afraid to highlight the work of Christ in your life. You may brag about His strength, or His grace, or His faithfulness/goodness. So, whether it is your conversion testimony or a new and fresh blessing for Jesus, be quick to say “a good word about Jesus.” I’m adopting the prayer of Paul in Ephesians chapter 6, verse 19 and 20, that we boldly open our mouths to declare the mystery of the gospel of Jesus!
See you on Sunday for Part 3 of Beyond the Walls,
