The Amazing, Saving Grace of the Lord

Church Family,

We are transitioning seasons here in the mountains. The mornings are colder and the afternoons are just right. We are blessed to host the Ladies Joy Gathering this weekend and we are preparing for the Trunk R Treat on October 31st in our lower parking lot.  Also, we will have a potluck and member’s meeting following our worship on October 29th. We are finishing off October on a strong note with ministry and opportunities.

On Sunday mornings, we’ve been talking about the Assurance of our Salvation/Eternal Security. One of the key verses for our study is Ephesians 2:8-9. ''For by grace you have been saved through faith and not that of yourselves it is the gift of God lest any man should boast.'' When I think about how amazing God's grace is I think of the story of the little boy who walked into the kitchen when his mother was preparing supper. He handed her a piece of paper he'd been writing on. So, she wiped her hands off on her apron, and began to read it. This is what it said...

For Cutting the grass $5.00

For cleaning my room this week $1.00

For going to the store for you .50

Baby-sitting my kid brother while you went shopping .25

Taking out the garbage $1.00

For getting a good report card $5.00

For cleaning up and raking the yard $2.00

Total Owed: $14.75

Well, his mother looked at him standing there expectantly, and you could see the memories flashing through her mind. So, she picked up the pen, turned over the paper he'd written on and this is what she wrote:

For the nine months I carried you while you were growing inside me--No Charge.

For all the nights that I've sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you--No Charge.

For all the trying times, and all the tears that you've caused through the years, there's--No Charge.

For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were ahead--No Charge.

For the toys, food, clothes, and even wiping your nose, there's-- No Charge.

Son, when you add it all up, the full cost of real love is-- No Charge.

The little boy read that and with tears in his eyes wrote across that bill...Paid in Full.

When Jesus died on the cross and suffered death for our sins, God in His great grace covered our sin and said they were paid for in full. We don’t deserve the Amazing, Saving Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives, but we can receive it by faith and daily thank him for this gift. Spend time this week giving God thanksgiving and praise for His Amazing, Saving, and Sustaining Grace.

See you on Sunday for part II of “How good is good enough?”
